A few days ago @penguinz0 known as Cr1TiKaL released a video called "Is Expensive Whiskey a Scam". Indian Whisky Explained in 3 Minutes
3 yrs. later, still great review. Thanks
EW is better. I've switched and never looked back.
I would love to try it if I see it in a bar to something but for $180.00 here in NC I will pass. And recently came a cross a bottle of Dark Arts for $529.00 yeah right, another pass!
I agree. Thanks.
Please do a side by side comparison 😊
I love this bottle and plan to grab at least two more of them.
Regular Jamason whiskey is still one of the best whiskey's ever. To me. It always makes me feel good and induces a rate type of happyness in me.
Black licorice, black berries. Smoke, salt and pepper Lemon, sea salt, grass
I'm still discovering whiskies. Evan Williams (black label) shot right up my list upon trying - I prefer it to Buffalo Trace and Maker's Mark (way too sour for me). Wild Turkey 101 remains my favourite in this price range.
It's a fantastic whisey
I had never even heard of this company On The Rocks until I went to Las Vegas for the first time back the beginning of April this year. The old fashioned was one of the alcohol selections they had put in the hotel refrigerators for the guest conveniences. Well I like whiskey and like Old Fashions so I decided to give it a try. It was impressively good for a premix. I don't like most premixes. They're usually not very good like a fresh cocktail. But this one was very good. I had the whole bottle gone in about 20 minutes and was a bit drunk. Now whenever I go to the liquor store I pick this one up. I have 3 of the big bottles on my bar right now. I also just purchased the Blue Hawaiian, Midour Sour, and Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita. Haven't tried this yet but will soon
Hi! I bought this whisky after watching your video and now I’m obsessed, which other “summer bottles” would you recommend? I’m looking for other interesting drams with exotic fruit notes, your video of the Lagavulin rum cask sounds super interesting, but do you have any other recommendations?
Tried Tullamore Dew for the first time the other day because they had it marked down at my local grocery store so I figured I would try it. Well its pretty good. I am a guy who until recently Jameson is my go to Irish Whiskey, probably because of the name recognition. Tullamore Dew is gonna be my go to now because it taste better at a good value.
This was so informative and fun. Sorry I left it so long to watch it.
Very very interesting and informative, thank you Bill. Great addition to your channel's content. If i can suggest something for future episodes: (1) a little bit longer introduction to the distillery for the folks like me, who never heard about them and never tried anything from them yet; (2) ask them to share some video from their distillery that can be shown while you keep talking. But in general - i have very positive aftertaste from this video 😅
Thats all very helpful! Many of these smaller distilleries don't have B roll of their distilleries... exactly why I need to visit more of them!
Insightful video! Thank you for this review. I wonder, though. It seems a bit contradictory in that you say the Norlan does give a richer, more pronounced nosing while drinking, but then you say that one will get no benefit from this glass aside from the way it looks. I'm guessing you mean no benefit over a glencairn for nosing, specifically? It seems there is a benefit when drinking whiskey neat, if one were to compare it to a standard tumbler, or am I misunderstanding?
Sorry for the confusion. Norlan compared to a tumbler will provide a better nose. Same taste. Glencairn provides the best nose in my opinion. Again, same taste.
unavailable in RI stores, great product I tried via nips.
I wish the Irish💰 had moved some of their whiskey making traditions to #Canada🇨🇦 and have their company listed on the #TorontoStockExchange💰 so we all Irish at heart👍🏼 can benefit from liquid gold🤳🏼... #MeridianCU🌎💘💰
Emotions and tastes are strange. I bought a bottle of Old Overholt BIB and was all set to fully enjoy the flavors and aroma and - found it disappointing. The next time I tried it, expecting the same disappointment, I really enjoyed it. Another example: I tasted Glenlivet 12 and found it also to be a letdown, after reading how good it was. The next time I tried it, I found it to be delicious! I put Lagavulin 8 on my shopping list.
I recently bought this edition and am really digging in. Would love to see you do the Offerman comparison video! Especially if you can get Nick to co-host with you. 👀
Now that would be something! I've been searching high and low for the two offerman editions I'm missing. Its not looking promising
Lmao 🤡 .....badmouths the 21 yet it makes the first 3 cuts. What a 🤡
never felt prouder of my irish heritage
Evan Williams Black is my favorite,
I'm in Texas and Weller Reserve is always on the shelf and it's around $35 skins. The other Weller's are on the shelf too, but they're priced too high. So, there they will collect dust until someone with more money than common sense buys them.
Great format.
I honestly don't have anything constructive to contribute. I thought this interview was pretty damn well structured. The questions were relevant, they didn't remind me of that SNL Chris Farley skit. You didn't overshadow with your own personal knowledge and insight. It was conversational and educational. I thought this was pretty good and I'd love to see more like this in the future, Bill. Cheers (I'm trying Bunnahabhain 12 for the first time. GODDAMN IS IT GOOD) Also...When did Hopper start distilling spirits?
Thanks for taking the time to comme t. I appreciate it! Hopper? Was that a typo?
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Nah, man...I think he looks like Hopper from Stranger Things season 2. Which I feel like is a compliment cuz Hopper is a bmf
Hah got it!
do we really need egg wash if we have a nut roaster? Does it last longer?
I don't have a nut roaster so I can't speak from experience. Sorry
Pot still wormtubs wood fermentation ok I need to try this
Glenmorangie 10 or Glenfiddich perpetual vat 01 which one is best ?.
All your points are assumed by you without proof, better stop drinking Scotch from now on.
100% Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich are a better pick than Monkey Shoulder. Glenmorangie is more inviting and only a little more expensive. Glenfiddich is a little different, interesting, a little pricy though. Both are better than Monkey Shoulder.
Try to find the illicit Glenlivet 12....it is very similar to an older 12 from the 80s
Im from Scott bloodline but find myself drinking the Irish whiskey on occation due its smooth drink like some have noted below...but with all things please in moderation and for the Americans dont drive (Scotland and Ireland are super strict on the DWI)
I live in a control state where the prices are $90 for this and $105 for the 16 year. Interesting that yours was reversed
After I heard that the favorite rye whisky of Gen. U.S. Grant and Doc Holliday was ‘Old Overholt’, I bought a bottle of the 100 proof, bonded whisky (BIB). I found it had very little aroma (some vanilla) and not much more taste. It is about $23 in Virginia’s state stores.
FWIW I say absolutely do a four-way side-by-side of the Offermans.
In UK it is now 43% abv. Am going to get it for my Dad for Father's Day.
Maybe make a cocktail with it? Is that such a blasphemy? I LOVE whiskey and scotch but I NEVER drink it straight. Make these guys a good whiskey cocktail and watch their minds change on the subject.
I'd love a side by side. I have tried them all, but it was before I really really got into whisky. I know where to find the III, I need to try to track down the other 2 that are older. I just want them all in my collection. I actually like the char one a lot, but thats also just my taste.
The Black Barrel is miles better than the other Jamesons. I have that at home, together with Redbreast 12. Both amazing!
Hey if you get a chance - get the Bizarre BQ. It's not gimmicky - to my surprise - it's lovely! If it's nearby and available - grab a bottle, put on a steak on the BBQ and enjoy!!
I'll look for this I'm a big fan of the 16. Great review.
This is the only Diageo bottle I routinely buy, so when i saw it for $82 it was a no-brainer. I wouldn't pay 100 off the bat, but then the good reviews started coming and I knew the shop that doesn't gauge prices would be getting it soon. I'm still working on the Guineas so I'm on eof those collector types that will Happily taste vicariously thru you
Several other RUclipsrs have called the whisky a ‘peat monster’ and completely misled me. Only after sampling it, did I realize what a wonderfully delicious dram it is. Salud! BTW. The word, ‘Ardbeg', means ‘the long promontory’ and is from Scottish Gaelic words.
I could see people who are not used to Peat, tasting smoke and assuming anything that tastes like smoke is a peat monster especially if they wanna be fantastical or exaggerate. Ardbeg 10 remains 1 of my favorite scotches
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I wish I had a case of Ardbeg 10!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary BTW. If you have an interest in the US Civil War, I learned which whisky, among others, Gen. Ulysses Grant drank. It is called 'Old Overholt’, and it is a rye whisky. The research was done by history author Tom Elmore. Strangely, after 160 years, the whisky is still sold in Virginia state stores! $25 per bottle. Review it, if you have a chance! Elmore also found that ‘Glenlivet' was popular with Southern planters.
@johnzajac9849 I've had Old Overholt. I'd be interested in covering it for sure
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary That’s marvelous! I plan to buy a bottle of it to learn what General Grant liked. Elmore also claims that the whisky was drunk by Doc Holliday and Pres. John F. Kennedy. It’s hard to believe that Old Overholt is still for sale 160 years after the CW. (Google search Elmore’s November, 2021 article: 'What did soldiers drink during the Civil War?, Mainly a lot of whiskey’)
Yes please do the side by side!!
I did realy like the Glenfiddich Fire & Cane which put the unusually peated whiskey in a rum cask. Maybe the peat is the key to making the rum finish work, a bit of bitter to offset the sweet, kind of like the mar that accentuates the beauty.
I’ll have to grab a bottle after your review. Would love to see a comparison…..
Yes, please do a side by side of the 4 Offerman! I’m sure a lot of your subscribers would appreciate it. Cheers
This Caribbean Cask is only the 2nd Offerman Edition I’ve tried. However, I’m on my 3rd bottle of “Charred Oak Cask”, (having purchased the last two at Costco for $80 each), so I had some expectations for the new release. I’ve only had a couple drams, but I’m enjoying the Caribbean Cask. Hopefully it shows up at my local Costco for a reasonable price too. Cheers.
Wait, are you thinking about doing an Offerman Off?
Yes!
